Legends like Wayne Gretzky, Sergei Fedorov or Brian Leetch played in the NHL and the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup Finals over seven thrilling games against the Vancouver Canucks at the end of the season. Rangers won their first championship since the 1939-40 season! In addition, the NHL expanded to a total of 26 teams with the addition of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and the Florida Panthers.
