The 2005/06 season was the NBA’s 60th anniversary season. The season MVP was Steve Nash, who met the Lakers in the first playoff round with the Suns, who naturally had the season’s top scorer Kobe Bryant in their ranks alongside Shaquille O’Neal. Nevertheless, Los Angeles had to admit defeat over 7 games. But the Suns also got a ticket home later, courtesy of Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas won the conference final and ultimately lost to the Miami Heat in the finals. The Finals MVP was Dwyane Wade. For more information see below.

• Background info 2005: Although historic events took place, such as Joseph Ratzinger being elected Pope or the youtube platform going online for the first time, many people are most likely to remember a natural disaster when they think back to 2005. Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas at the end of August and was initially classified as “moderate”. However, the storm will head for the USA and develop into one of the most violent hurricanes ever recorded within a very short space of time. In Louisiana and Florida, the hurricane will destroy entire regions and cause destruction on a historic scale, especially in the major city of New Orleans.
