The fighting game quickly gained cult status because it not only featured sophisticated characters and rare fighting methods, but also a very detailed depiction of violence. Especially the legendary “Fatalities”, the finishing moves at the end of a successful fight, were an innovation that the video game world had never seen in this form before. Till today, the franchise has developed numerous follow-up games, as well as movies, comic books and many other media.
